Let’s make one thing perfectly clear right from the start, unless YEC want to established themselves as the new Catholic church with Ken Ham as their Pope, take everything they say as just their opinions. I say this not to be derisive but as a statement of fact. Almost universally the recent YEC will claim they are the only ones who uphold the truth of the Bible and the sole people who knows what the Bible says especially in Genesis 1-11. They don’t even say they are interpreting Genesis. In their mind what they say is actually what the Bible said. “What’s amusing is that some people think that it’s as if simply stating this obvious truth (that the Hebrew word used for day in Genesis 1 [Yom] can mean something other than a literal day) is some resounding rebuttal to the plain reading of the Genesis text (and all

and dare I say duplicity. Here is a debate between Hugh Ross & Eric Hovind on the Age of the Earth. Here is the article on Eric Hovind’s website on The Hebrew Yom: Taking One Day at a Time. Go ahead and watch that debate but my post here is focused on Hovind’s own article. Day in Context The Hebrew yom occurs 2,282 times outside Genesis 1. It occurs 359 times with a number outside Genesis 1. Some of these occurrences use cardinal numbers (one, two, three, etc.) and some use ordinal numbers (first, second, third, etc.). However, in all 359 cases, the context clearly shows that a 24-hour day is being referenced. Yom occurs 19 times outside Genesis 1, together with either the word “morning” or “evening.” In all 19 cases, a 24-hour day is clearly intended. The words “morning” and “evening” occur together, without “day” 38 times outside
Yes, I used to be a Young Earth Creationist (YEC) but these days they like to call themselves Biblical Creationist, whatever that means. OK, I know what it means but I don’t want to waste my time in this post to dissect their stupid name change as if that would help them with their underlying flawed theology and science. I stumbled on this This is an idea that YEC like Jason Lisle have espouse for some time. This is the reason why I am no longer a YEC. I used to think “secular” scientists misuse the data from science to attack the Bible but YEC scientists are the ones who correctly show how science supports our Biblical interpretation. But when I start to really dig into the YEC arguments I find it not only lacking but many times misleading. Which led to a crisis of faith. “You think well billions
Is Genesis 1 Literal, Literalism, or Literalistic? Young Earth Creationists like to claim they are the only Christians who hold the truth of the Bible. And they claim that science support their interpretation of of the Bible. Everyone else has capitulated to the atheistic evolutionary science and conform their interpretation to match the false secular science. I don’t think I am too far off in stating the YEC view on this since I’ve been the subject of many of their attacks based on my Old Earth Creationist view. So I will use the above article from Answers In Genesis, a vanguard of the YEC, to illustrate some of their errors. Young earth creationists, or rather biblical creationists,1 are often accused of being over literal in their interpretation of Genesis 1. Regrettably, this accusation caricaturizes this position as a “literalistic interpretation,” which is unfortunate since biblical creationists explain their hermeneutic as
